GORGON: A HORROR STORY

THE DEBUT PLAY WRITTEN BY ELF LYONS

“Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Medusa. You'll scream or be sick. That's the aim.”

GORGON: A HORROR STORY is an immersive horror show that thrills and inspires, using live sound foley and horror tricks inspired by the gruesome Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol.

After a successful sold out one week run at VAULT Festival in February 2020 and a successful crowdfunding campaign to support the development of the show, Elf Lyons is keen to find a venue to work alongside to give Gorgon: A Horror Story new life in 2020 and a longer run.

The team behind Gorgon: A Horror Story believe it to be a vivacious show and unlike any work currently on in London. It is both horrifying and totally relatable.

“Through live foley artistry, gory tricks, and meticulous atmospheric finesse she delivers a horrifying tale of repressed anger. Gorgon: A Horror Story is an evocative, terrifying play that meddles with the audience's perception of the genre turning the spook factor up to the max. […] Gorgon works in every little detail. It's exciting, funny, disgusting, sad, and - most importantly - scary.” ★★★★★ BROADWAY WORLD

“[Elf] creates a genuinely horrific tale using an armoury of tools from lighting and sound effects to visceral storytelling. The result is sick, disgusting and as darkly funny as it’s possible to get, guaranteed to delight fans of classic horror." ★★★★ BRITISH THEATRE

“For all the parallels that film critics like to draw between the visceral aspects of comedy and horror, it’s rarely pulled off, or at least not in such a balanced way as Lyons manages here.” ★★★★ COMEDY TO WATCH

“Gorgon is a three-hander that opens with a rendezvous between a spooked cop (David Houston) and a questionable therapist (Natalie Williams). Its twisted tale of sizzling flesh, abusive relationships and mysterious disappearances is punctured by moments of deliberately bathetic humour and the odd satirical swipe at the trend for true-crime podcasts. Warning: you may never cook with leeks again.” Chris Weigand - The Guardian - ‘TOP PICKS OF VAULT FESTIVAL’

“The design starts telling the story even before the actors take the stage. Sophia Pardon (designer), Lesley Talbot (lighting) and Molly Isaac (sound) have created an atmospheric world in which this dark tale unfolds.Elf Lyons’ ‘Gorgon’ is a dark, absorbing, deliciously quirky and queasy theatrical experience.  Lovers of the horror genre, particularly Hammer House and Grand-Guignol should really enjoy this show." VIEW FROM THE OUTSIDE

“A spectacularly brilliant show which fuses conventions of both horror and comedy, effortlessly guiding the audience on the protagonist’s journey of revenge.” THE PLAY’S THE THING

“Elf Lyons’s quirky shows are undefinable which is always a good thing. They break the boundaries that put theatre, comedy and performance art in distinct boxes.”  LYN GARDNER -  STAGE DOOR - ‘TOP PICKS OF VAULT FESTIVAL’
